Felting Semesters

Advanced Felting Semester
This is for experienced felt makers and artists who want to work
regularly and deeply with a supportive group to develop their work.
The entire semester is considered one class. Classes cannot
be taken individually or refunded.
First weekend of each month (5 days total)
All classes 10 am - 5 pm (extended studio hours included)
Cost: $450 (materials not included)
Beginning / Intermediate Felting Semester
This class is for feltmakers and artists with some experience with
felting who would like to develop their own voice, learn lots more
about felting, and work with a supportive group every month
The entire semester is considered one class. Classes cannot

Second weekend of each month (6 days total)
All classes 10 am - 5 pm (extended studio hours included)

January-March

Session 1: Color
|
|
We will continue in our endless exploration of color in felting
- exploring shadows, lighting, dripping, flowing, and realism.
January 3
10 am - 5 pm

| Session 2 & 3 : Boro Rag Beauty |
|
We will think about mending, layering, shredding, cutting, and
indigo dying with felt and fabric.
February 6-7
10 am - 5 pm

Session 4 & 5: Organza and Felt
|
|
Organza has beautiful qualities of stiffness, sheen, shine, and
transparency. We will try a variety of felting effects and discuss
organza and felt clothing.

April - June
|
|
Session 1: Pattern
|
|
This class will explore using repeating motifs, using fabric for
inspiration and will show how to make felt millefiori, and murrini
to make your marks

| Session 2 & 3 : Sculpture, Multiples, and Containers |
|
This class will cover making felt sculptures in multiples, exploring
the container forms, and the amazing options that felt offers for
texture, color, and internal shape

Session 4 & 5: Painting, Monoprinting, and Stamping on Fabric
for felting
|
|
We will use silk and cotton, rollers, brushes, sponges, and procian
dyes to make printed silk and cotton for felting

Session 1 & 2: Intro to Felting Color
|
|
This is a lavish introduciton to flat felting and it's wonderful
opportunities for using color. We will use tussah silk, bombay silk,
silk caps, and silk paper, and layer all the fundamentals.
Beginners and Intermediate students welcome

|
Everyone needs a pair of warm, colorful felt boots or slippers.
We will cover using plastic resists, shaping felt to your body and
some fun surface design techniques.
Intro to Felting prerequisite or previous felting classes at
Deep Color.

Session 5 & 6: Nuno Felting and Organza
|
|
Felting into organza creates a beautiful, light, crisp fabric with
the translucence of organza and thesparkle of felt. We will cover
the essentials of nuno felting and discuss felt clothing
Intro to Felting prerequisite or previous felting classes at
Deep Color.

Session 1: Intro Class to Feltmaking - Indigo and Shibori
|
|
We will explore many methods for making 3-D shaping on your flat
felting including dying, sewing, and fake shibori, then overdye
your pieces in a natural indigo pot. All the basics of flatmaking
will be covered. All levels welcome

| Session 2 & 3 : Bags, Containers, & Sculptures |
|
We will learn an easy, clever way to make felt containers withour
using a resist. We will also consider handles, closures, and shaping
over various forms. Some felting experience necessary.

Session 4 & 5: Painting Fabric for felting
|
|
We will use procian dyes on silk and cotton to make radiant layered
painted and printed fabric to use with your feltmaking. There will
be time for feltmaking as well. Prereq: 1 weekend felting class
at Deep Color
